Receiving New Spells

Books went through some of Geri’s gear and says “I think you should have a copy – torchlight (because its damn handy – then you could use he magic lamp too) and holding – both apprentice.”

Gallants Inauguration

During the ceremony in which the newest members of the Gallants were sworn in, when he took his oath, the entire rest of the team shouted “huzzah”. As a noble Roisewood, the Baron claimed he had also come into his birthright: He knighted (errant – un-landed) Prothalius (though it does him little good to use his real identity)!

>>> Demise of Original Gallants Story: The story (spread by agents of Baron Wheglin) was that the Gallants fought off some great evil at Braddon Bog, pursued it to the town of Dirte Diaphor in West Riven Run, and there in a great battle killed the mercenary band known as the Bloody Spikes and drove the evil power away – at the cost of their own lives. The few remaining followers gathered up a few stragglers ion their way back to their employer and were reformed under the blessing of Baron Wheglin (its well known that the new group is not simply mercenaries any more). Its rumored that the Baron gave criminals and debtors a chance to redeem themselves and that that element makes up most of their numbers.

Irregular’s Activity

(interaction as Wheglin’s Irregular)
Every single one of the Irregulars has become friends with Prothalius. He is their lifeline. Many times he has saved one of their lives in the field through either his protective magics or his healers abilities. If anything, all the Irregulars are a bit over protective of him (Nils/“flowers” especially), and he never goes anywhere alone. When he says something about healing or a wound treatment, everyone – even Griebbe (“canine”) – stops and listens. In fact, though “Flowers” is acknowledged as Griebbe’s second, only “Bandage” at this time has a similar air of authority (from his noble upbringing).

>>> End Story: The story well-told (by the Baron’s agents) of the original Wheglin’s Irregulars was that they were pensioned out, after becoming too well known, and left the area to go north with the remainders of the Green River Brigade under their banner.

(group hook)
Prothalius stayed in the field for 6 months, non stop – aiding those who rose against Berithor as he could. After one particularly harsh “example” Berithor’s troops made of locals, Prothalius rushed to the aid of several farmers in Mosshaven who had been attacked by Berithor’s men. Clearly a medic and nothing more, they still attempted to run him down. Watching was Nils Hytn, who felt compelled to intervene – breaking his Ranger’s code of Silent Watching. He rescued Prothalius, but was forced to leave the Rangers. Having no where else to go, Nils stayed on with the Roisewwod family’s blessings. When the Prothalius was asked to join Baron Wheglin’s new band of operatives by Grace Peregrin, Prothalius would only go if his friend could come as well.

Prothalius is the second son of Sir Owen Roisewood II, knight of Mosshaven. At a young age he began his training as page and then squire. He clearly demonstrated his ability to repair wounds better than repairing armor and weapons. Although his status as a gentleman afforded him much, he often spurned such luxuries in favor of academic pursuits. Frustrated, his father sent men of faith and magic to him to see if he had aptitude for aught else. Surprisingly, House Malor volunteered to tutor him as a magus. For the next 6 years he lived in Dunstrand City, accumulating his skills as a mage (albeit slower than most). He finally could no longer remain when news of the civil war in Bar-Innis became prevalent gossip in court and social circles. He returned home and took up arms against his father’s enemies and became involved with the “rebellion”, whilst his family was trapped by Berithor’s oath and garrison. He gave up his comfortable quarters for a warrior’s steed and a pillow bead for the hard ground. His family sponsored him as a permanent affiliated magus of House Malor; he need no pay fees and may practice magic as long as he bows to the will of its members where his desires the their interests clash. Essentially his standing as a Scarlet Applicant is permanently guaranteed as long as his family vouches for him. His “official” sponsor and liaison with House Malor is Lerapus.

Code of the Gallants

(based on the written, official code)

  1. Duty to brotherhood, faith and guild… but loyalty to group first
  2. Trust and follow the chain of command, inside the group and out
  3. Orders given are to be obeyed. Abuse of command will result in a vote that strips it and gives it to another.
  4. Information is given on a need to know basis; not everything will be shared by the group – this is to protect it more than anything
  5. Respect authority but never without question
  6. In battle, back your companions move – later is the time to question
  7. Never leave anyone behind – even if you have to return
  8. Spend on the group, not outside – monetarily and time-wise
  9. Never volunteer for locals; safety and expectation management are more important than making friends
  10. Never leave the safety of the group without providing plans and details to the leader(s)
  11. Always take the opportunity to gather intelligence on places, people, and items
  12. Never walk into a situation without a plan or way of getting out
